Palermo, Monreale, Segesta, Erice, Cefalù, Agrigento, Mt. Etna, and Taormina.
Arrive at Palermo, Punta Raisi Airport, meet your driver and transfer to a hotel. Today you have time at your leisure to relax. We recommend that you spend the night in Palermo.
On Day 2, your personal driver and local guide (recommended for this tour) will arrive at your hotel for a full day of sightseeing in Palermo. Spend the morning visiting the Palatine Chapel and the Cathedral of Palermo. After lunch, follow your guide to Piazza Pretoria and the Quattro Canti. For people interested in the real life of the people of Palermo (Palermitani) we also recommend a stroll in one of the local markets in the historic part of Palermo (there are three people that are very well known in Palermo, and their names are “U Capo”, “A Vucciria”, and “Ballarò”). Here you will see the real life of the market people in Palermo. This walk is not ideal for everyone as many market people raise their voices (speaking in Parlemo dialect) to attract attention to their market stands in order to sell their goods. Also, there are many different meat cuts exposed and fresh fish stand in the streets. We recommend that you spend the night in Palermo.
Your personal driver will arrive at your hotel on Day 3 for a full day of sightseeing. Spend the morning visiting Monreale where you can visit the cathedral and its beautiful cloister. Continue to the Doric temple of Segesta, set in a beautiful atmosphere, plus a stop at the nearby Greek theater. Arrive in Erice at 2,500 feet above sea level and enjoy one of Italy’s most beautiful towns and spectacular views. We strongly advise you request for a local guide in places like Erice and Segesta. We recommend that you spend the night in Palermo.
Transfer on day four to Agrigento. Our first stop on the Tyrrhenian coast is the lovely seaside town of Cefalù. Wind your way through the medieval walkways to the sun drenched main piazza and visit its wonderful 13th-century Norman cathedral. Transfer to Agrigento and visit the Valley of the Temples. We recommend that you request a local tour guide for this tour. Agrigento, once a flourishing Greek settlement, is still standing today. You will find remains of a string of Doric temples a spetacular view within the beauty of a still valley of wild thyme, fennel, silvery olive groves and almond blossoms. We recommend that you spend the night in Agrigento.
Transfer to Taormina on Day 5. On route, we will stop to visit the tallest active volcano in Europe, Mount Etna. Visit the central crater Silvestre at 900 feet. We will arrive late afternoon at your hotel in Taormina and you can spend the evening at your leisure. We recommend that you spend the night in Taormina.
In Taormina on day 6, meet your local tour guide for a stroll along Corso Umberto. Continue to the Giardini Publici, one of Italy’s most beautiful parks, offering spectacular views of Mount Etna.
